If you’re looking to replace your current medical record system with an EHR, you should know that there are several options to choose from. The amazing DrChrono EHR and Athena both offer various features, and each is recommended by many healthcare providers. Let’s take a closer look at each product. Both are excellent options, but each has its own unique advantages and disadvantages.

The cost of DrChrono EHR starts at $199 per license. Athenahealth is more affordable at $140 per provider/month + 4%-7%. Both products have an easy-to-use interface, and each provider can access all of their records from any location. Each EHR has an impressive feature list, but a comparison between these two will show which one is more flexible.

Common Similarities between the two Software:

Both the sublime Athena EHR and DrChrono EHR feature robust functionalities and streamline care provider daily tasks. Athena users felt that its user interface was easy to use, and that there were no system outages. While some users noted that Athena’s customer support was satisfactory, the claims functionality could use some workarounds. Users found that at times the data was inaccurate, but could not pinpoint the cause.

DrChrono has raised a total of $19.7 million in funding, and was previously ranked #1 in the Mobile EHR space. The new funding will enable it to implement ambitious plans sooner. In addition to funding, DrChrono has partnered with former Vice President Joe Biden’s Argonaut Project, which helps private companies develop the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource API that will standardize electronic medical records across the U.S.

The depth of each functionality:

In addition to EHRs, both systems offer medical billing services and technology platforms. Using Drchrono and Ambra’s integration removes the need to navigate patient information and files. Using Ambra’s integration with Drchrono, physicians can quickly access patient imaging, launch Ambra Health’s image viewer, and upload it to their patient record. Both systems also guarantee that patient data is linked, which is a major benefit.

Whether or not to use a cloud-based EHR depends on the needs of the provider. Cloud-based solutions are becoming popular, and are now considered the best option for both small and large healthcare organizations. They allow customization and upgrades, and are often cheaper than on-premise EHRs. The only disadvantage of cloud-based EHR systems is the fact that they require a computer and stable Internet connection to run.
